Privacy Policy

This policy covers Home Inspection Report Builder (“HIRBuilder”, “the App”) in every form we offer it: the iOS app, the Android app, the Windows app, and the web app at hirbuilder.com/app. Where a practice differs between the installed apps and the web app, it is called out below.

1. Information We Collect

We collect information you provide directly when using Home Inspection Report Builder (HIRBuilder):

Account information: email address and password
Inspector profile: name, company, license number, contact details
Inspection data: findings, photos, notes, and reports you create
Client information: names, addresses, and contact details you enter
Device information: device type, operating system, and a unique device identifier. In the web app this is browser and operating-system information rather than a persistent device identifier
Usage data: app interactions, sync activity, and error logs

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

Provide and maintain the App
Sync your data across your devices
Generate inspection reports
Manage your subscription and account
Enforce device limits and edit locks
Send important service notifications
Improve the App and fix issues
Comply with legal obligations

3. Data Storage and Security

Your inspection data is stored locally on your device and, when cloud sync is enabled, on our secure cloud servers powered by Supabase. Data is encrypted in transit using TLS and at rest using AES-256 encryption. We implement Row Level Security to ensure your data is only accessible to you.

In the web app, that local copy is held in your browser’s own storage (Origin Private File System or IndexedDB), and your signed-in session is kept in your browser’s local storage. Both are strictly necessary for the app to function. We do not use cookies, local storage, or any similar technology for advertising, analytics, or cross-site tracking.

4. Offline-First Design

The iOS, Android, and Windows apps are designed to work offline. An account is required to use the App, but once signed in you can continue working without an internet connection. Your inspection data is stored locally on your device first and synced to our secure cloud servers when a connection is available.

The web app keeps a local copy in your browser as described above, but requires an internet connection to sign in and to sync, and does not offer the same offline capability as the iOS, Android, and Windows apps.

5. Photos and Media

Photos you capture during inspections are stored locally on your device. When cloud sync is enabled, photos are uploaded to secure cloud storage associated with your account. Photos are not shared with third parties or used for any purpose other than providing the inspection service to you.

6. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We may share information only in these circumstances:

With your consent
To comply with legal obligations or valid legal processes
To protect our rights, privacy, safety, or property
With service providers who assist in operating the App (e.g., cloud hosting, payment processing), under strict confidentiality agreements

7. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service. If you delete your account, we will delete your data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law. Local data on your device remains until you uninstall the App or clear its data; in the web app, until you clear your browser’s site data for hirbuilder.com.

8. Your Rights

You have the right to:

Access your personal data
Export your inspection data
Correct inaccurate data
Delete your account and associated data
Opt out of non-essential communications
Manage your connected devices

9. Children’s Privacy

The App is designed for professional home inspectors and is not intended for use by children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

10. Third-Party Services

The App uses the following third-party services:

Supabase: Cloud database and authentication
RevenueCat: Subscription management
Stripe: Payment processing for web subscriptions purchased through RevenueCat Web Billing. Card details are handled by Stripe directly and are never stored by us

These services have their own privacy policies governing how they handle data.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the App or via email. The “Last updated” date at the top of this policy indicates when it was last revised.
